international standard for safe and reliable chemical pumps
chemical standard
ISO 5199
The Chemical Standard ISO 5199 for pumps is an international standard established to ensure that chemical pumps operate safely and reliably. The standard describes the requirements for the design, performance and dimensions of the pumps used for pumping chemical liquids, among other things.
An important part of the standard is that chemical pumps must meet strict safety standards and be built with corrosion-resistant materials. This ensures that the pumps are not only safe to use, but also durable and long lasting.
Manufacturers producing chemical pumps must comply with the ISO 5199 standard in order to sell their products in various markets around the world. This guarantees that customers buy reliable and safe pumps that meet international standards.
What is a chemical standard pump?
The concept of a chemical standard pump is very simple, these pumps are designed according to an ISO, DIN and/or ANSI standard and are therefore extremely suitable for pumping chemical liquids.
Goulds and Vogel are well-known brands within the chemical industry, since Vogel has been transferred to Xylem, this manufacturer is now introducing a new chemical standard pump under the brand name Lowara that meets all standards and technologies of today. These Lowara e-IXP pumps are probably interchangeable with your current chemical standard pumps.
Advantages of chemical standard pumps
The advantage of chemical standard pumps according to an ISO standard is that the pumps:
- Be suitable for heavy duty applications, chemical liquids.
- Suitable for various drives.
- Often available with various mechanical seals.
- Require little maintenance.
- However, good alignment is important with the pumps and these types of pumps are only suitable for horizontal installation.
ADVICE AND SALES
THE BEST POSSIBLE SOLUTION FOR YOUR APPLICATION
There are many different types of pumps and just as many applications, such as a submersible, circulation or well pump. Due to this diversity of pumps, it is wise to be well informed about what type of pump is required before you purchase one or have it overhauled. The IPG team with various pump experts can always advise you on the best possible solution for your application and can also support you with the purchase and installation of the pump.
IPG has strong relationships with various pump manufacturers and can therefore give you good advice in purchasing many types and brands of pumps. For example, the Industrial Pump Group is the Dutch importer of SAER and official dealer of Lowara, Grundfos and Seepex, among others.

CHEMICAL STANDARDS
Pumps are available according to many norms and standards. For example, there are the following standards:
- DIN 24255 for water standard pumps, for pumping water or similar liquids.
- DIN 24256 as the 'chemistry standard', this standard is applied to pumps suitable for heavier applications with, for example, chemicals.
Another important standard is the API plan, which determines how the mechanical seal ensures that the liquid from the pump housing is not cooled near the motor.
In addition to these standards, there are also ANSI standards, which are established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This non-profit organization also sets the requirements for an ISO standard, for example for a chemical standard pump.

Vogel Chemical Standard Pumps
Well-known and reliable chemical standard pumps are those of the Vogel brand. The Vogel LSN, LSB and LN pumps have been popular pumps in the chemical industry for many years. Many of these pumps are placed due to the reliability and lifespan of these pumps.
Over the years, Vogel pumps have been placed under Xylem, the parent company of Lowara and Flygt, among others. Due to Xylem's continued focus on the industrial market, the Vogel pumps will be sold under the brand name Lowara from now on. New is the Lowara e-IXP series introduced in 2021. This series of chemical standard pumps is based on the years of experience of developing chemical standard pumps by Xylem/Vogel and meets the latest requirements and most modern technologies. The e-IXP series includes various types of pumps, including the Lowara e-IXP. This single-stage horizontal pump with free shaft can be connected to any standard IEC motor and is the ideal option for exchanging your current (Vogel) ISO 2858 pump.
