Pumps for the food and beverage industry
The food and beverage industry uses a wide variety of pump types for various processing applications. The pumps of this industry are subject to various national and international production and hygiene standards. A good example is the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States, which sets standards for pump material, for example high-quality stainless steel material and food-grade lubricants for pump lubrication. In Europe, the requirements are set by the EHEDG.
Compliance with strict hygiene standards
Pumps meet stringent FDA and EHEDG hygiene standards, ensuring safe and sanitary food processing.
Maintains product integrity
Lobe and progressive cavity pumps maintain product consistency and integrity, essential for delicate food items like fruit yoghurt.
Versatile for various liquids
Suitable for a wide range of applications, from transferring low-viscosity liquids with centrifugal pumps to handling high-viscosity liquids with positive displacement pumps.
Efficient cleaning and maintenace
Designed for easy Cleaning in Place (CIP) and Steam in Place (SIP), making maintenance straightforward and ensuring operational efficiency.
The right pump for this application
Depending on the size of the installation and the applications, the types of pumps used in the food industry are as follows.
Centrifugal pumps
Used for pumping less viscous liquids when high flow rates are required, usually for transferring milk from one destination to another. It is the most commonly used type of pump in the dairy industry. Where for the treatment of high viscous liquids, where product consistency is a priority, such as fruit yoghurt, the pulp liquid positive displacement pumps are preferred.
Lobe pumps / Progressive Cavity Pump
This type of pump does not produce too much force on the product being pumped, therefore it is best suited where product consistency needs to be maintained, where a centrifugal pump due to its high speed would change the consistency of the product. Rotary lobe pumps take up less space and also offer good Cleaning in place / Steam in place properties for cleaning purposes than progressive cavity pumps. But worm pumps are used when high discharge pressures are required and for higher pressure handling.
Some other types of pumps used in the industrial sector are
- Air operated double diaphragm
- Positive displacement pumps
Advice and sales
The best possible solution for your application
